Chord chart, arrangement or transcription — which one do I want?

Choose by what you are about to do at the keyboard. A chord chart is chord symbols over slash notation: bar-by-bar harmony and song form, the page a rhythm section reads when someone else has the tune. A piano arrangement is a playable two-hand cover in one of 21 styles — it follows the song, not the record. A piano transcription writes out the notes the recording actually plays, which is what you want for study, and not always what two hands can hold.

Do I get the melody line, or the lyrics?

No output writes a separate melody staff, and none of them carry lyrics. A chord chart is harmony and form only. An arrangement folds the tune into the piano writing, usually under the right hand, the way a pianist would play it rather than as a vocal line. A transcription writes whatever the piano played — if the melody was sung, it will not be there. Pulling a sung melody out of a full mix cleanly enough to engrave is still unsolved, and we would rather leave it out than print a wrong one.

How accurate is it?

Pitch is the strong part, rhythm the fragile one. On a solo piano recording the notes themselves come out close to right. On a full mix — drums, bass, a voice in the middle — the reading approximates, and instruments other than piano can surface as notes nobody played. Most of the remaining errors are in the notation layer: meter, barlines and note values all rest on beat tracking, which struggles with rubato, with a ritardando, and with sparse passages. Every result ships as MusicXML for exactly this reason.

What will I usually have to fix by hand?

Four things, in this order. The time signature and the barlines, especially in 6/8 or 12/8 and anywhere the tempo breathes. The key signature, which is estimated from the pitches on the page, so a modal tune or one leaning on borrowed chords can land on the wrong relative key. The staff split, where a phrase that crosses hands may have been written into the other one. And the dynamics, which are read from how hard each note was struck, so they mark broad changes rather than phrasing. Fingering, pedalling and slurs are not written at all — those are yours. Open the MusicXML in MuseScore, Sibelius or Dorico and it is usually a handful of edits, not a re-entry.

Which links work?

Private, deleted, age-restricted or region-blocked videos cannot be fetched, and videos that are too long are rejected before any Notes are charged — use a shorter video, or a clip of it. A clean recording reads better than a loud one: live audience audio, heavy compression and layered remixes all cost accuracy. What you then do with the result is between you and whoever owns the song.

How long does one take?

Between about half the video's length and roughly two and a half times it. A chord chart is the fastest, an arrangement takes about as long as the video, a transcription around 2.5×. Only one job runs at a time, so yours may wait briefly in the queue — you can watch it move on the generation page.

Nothing right now. YouTube-to-sheet-music is completely free during community testing — all three output types. Once charging begins, Notes will be counted against the length of the source audio at a different rate per minute for each output: a chord chart is the cheapest, a full transcription the most, an arrangement sits between them. You will always see the exact figure for your song before you confirm, and we will announce any change in advance.

What happens if a generation fails, or I cancel it?

Your Notes come back. They are only held when the job starts and charged when it succeeds, so a failure, a timeout or a cancellation releases the hold and returns them to your balance. The history page labels every run held, charged or refunded.

Where do my sheets live, and do the files expire?

Every run is kept under your sheets in your account, alongside the key, meter, tempo and bar count it estimated — worth a glance before you print, since a wrong meter shows up there first. Download links are short-lived for security and the generated files are kept for a limited time, so save the PDF, MusicXML and MIDI you want to keep. If they have expired, generate the song again for a fresh copy.
